 Our condolences: Death of Prof. Rosenthal.

The staff of muslimphilosophy.com joins the philosophical community around the world in offering condolences to the family and students of Prof. Franz Rosenthal (1915-2003). Prof. Rosenthal passed away, on Tuesday April 8 at a hospice in Branford, Conn. He was 88 and had lived in Hamden, Conn. He was Sterling professor emeritus of Arabic at Yale. Among his numerous works is an English language translation of Ibn Khaldun's Muqaddimah. He also authored a work on the study of History and Historiography of the Muslim world. Prof. Rosenthal did not marry and has no offspring. He leaves behind a rich legacy of scholarly works. A panel is in the planning stages on his contributions at the 2004 AAR annual meeting.
