I am very delighted with the existence of this website. It contains much valuable information on Islamic Philosophy, which I was fortunate to study at UCLA under Professor Hossein Ziai. The philosophical dictionary is especially useful and I am pleased to see that it is being added to and updated constantly to make it an even better resource. With best regards, Keven Brown

Thank you for your excellent site. I am studying Islamitic philosophy now for more than three years. I find it very interesting. I also think it is good to know as much as possible about Islamitic thought to make a real dialogue possible between east and west. I know for a fact that George Bush knows absolutely nothing about this matter. I presume that fundamentalistic Islamists know little about it. Thank you and keep the good work going!

first of all I should thank you for the great effort you have done and you are still doing for the construction of this valuable site. As a student of philosophy, particularly interested in Islamic philosophy and getting direct access to its tradition, I think that your site is the most interesting one, though I think, however, that the wonderfully prolific production of Muslim philosophers is above recension. Thank you once again for your service. Before finishing your communication, I want to draw your attention to another website, constructed in Emirates, which furnishes, among others, some valuable sources of Muslim philosophy. It may be useful for your project. The site is entitled "www.alwaraq.com "

I am a teacher of the history of political philosophy, and devote parts of my courses to such Islamic philosophers as al-Farabi, Avicenna, and Averroes. I appreciate the opportunity to direct my students to your journal so they may read informed, competent treatments of themes in Islamic philosophy. The articles in your first issue are all clear and authoritative. You are to be commended for making these resources available to persons in the West who seek to understand Islam in an accurate and informed way.

Answer:

Thank you and please do so.

I am absolutely delighted with the existence of this website. You are doing a onderful job. First of all I should thank you for your efforts to construct his invaluable site. I have already been using the historically important philosophy and kalam texts provided by "maftab" site by Mr Maksoud Aftab. I extend my gratitude to you for both, of these sites. As a researcher in Islamic philosophy on epistemology, and tahāfuts, in particular tahāfut by Alaaddin Ali Tūsī, Kitāb al-Zuhr and as the editor of the journal of "Bilim ve Felsefe Metinleri" (Texts on Science and Philosophy) published in Ankara by Öncü publishing house (www.bilimvefelsefe.net) (current issue No:3, April 2004), I am extremely grateful to you.

I did feel the need of some basic texts while studying. Unfortunately it is not very easy to get hold of such texts on this little island of Cyprus. And NOW, thanks to your site we have the opportunity to gain access to the works of the philosophers and thinkers of our civilisation. God bless you for this.

The Philosophical Dictionary in your site is very useful as it is in providing valuable information but I would be more pleased to see it regularly updated. If you are able to enrich your site with the monumental Lexique de la Langue philosophique d'Ibn Sīnā by A-M. Goichon, and Essai sur les Origines du Lexique technique de la Mystique musulmane by Massignon our gratitude will be even greater.

I am a teacher of philosophy at the Near East University in Nicosia, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. From time to time I go to the State Archives in Kyrenia and I have found a manuscript of Ali Tūsī's tahāfut, Kitāb al-Zuhr which has not been studied yet. An article will very possibly be published in the next issue of the Texts on Science and Philosophy probably under the name of "Another Copy of Ali Tūsī's tahāfut Kitāb al-Zuhr". This tahāfut is one of the third tahafuts, yes with an "s" because two tahafut books were written at the same period by two separate thinkers, Ali Tūsī (died 1482) and Hocazāde (d. 1488) on the order of the Sultan of the day, Mehmed the Conqueror, in Istanbul.
